Cognetics Group

Cognetics Group, a leader in the custom supplement space, faced a critical challenge: they had a high-end website built on the professional roots.io stack but had lost touch with their original developer. In the world of custom software, being “stranded” with a complex codebase is a major business risk. They needed a partner who could step into a sophisticated environment and not only keep the lights on but also drive the platform forward.

We stepped in as their dedicated technical department. By mastering their existing Sage, Bedrock, and Trellis infrastructure, we stabilized the site and began executing a roadmap of high-impact features. From adding a comprehensive content engine to integrating complex third-party intelligence APIs, we transformed their “orphaned” site into a scalable growth engine.

The Challenge

Inheriting a roots.io stack without documentation or original developer support is a "Wrench" task of the highest order. Cognetics had ambitious goals—including interactive customer quizzes and new revenue streams via pre-orders—but no way to implement them safely. The challenge was to audit the "thousand tiny decisions" made by the previous team and ensure all new features integrated seamlessly with their custom WooCommerce setup.

  • Developer Discontinuity: The lack of handoff required a deep-dive audit of the custom theme (Sage) and server configuration (Trellis).
Content Stagnation: The site lacked a functional blog, limiting their ability to execute an SEO and brand authority strategy.
Complex Feature Demands: Implementing API-based quizzes and pre-order logic requires precise custom coding to avoid breaking the core checkout flow.

The Solution

Technical Stewardship and Feature Evolution

We moved quickly to stabilize the platform and then shifted focus to "Strategy in Motion." By treating the site as a living product, we added the technical layers Cognetics needed to better serve their customers and capture more market share.

  • API-Based Intelligence Quiz: We integrated a custom third-party intelligence quiz, allowing Cognetics to provide personalized supplement recommendations through a seamless, data-driven interface.
Custom WooCommerce Functionality: We engineered a bespoke pre-order system, enabling the brand to capture revenue on upcoming product launches and manage inventory expectations effectively.
Content Engine Development: We built out a robust blog feature within their custom theme, giving the brand a voice and a vehicle for organic growth.
Roots.io Stack Mastery: Provided ongoing maintenance of their Bedrock/Trellis environment, ensuring the site remained secure, fast, and developer-friendly for future scaling.

After losing our original developer, we were in a tough spot with a very complex site. The team stepped in, mastered our custom stack immediately, and started delivering features we had been wanting for months. They are more than just developers; they are the technical partners we were missing.
